Sportspeople and young people frequently increase their protein intake, believing it would boost muscle strength or help them heal faster from an injury. But, doctors are of the view that it can damage their kidneys, raise uric acid, and cause stomach problems.

Dr. Anirudh Sharma, a UK-based nutritionist, suggested that physically active people consume 1.2 to 2.0 gms of protein per kg of body weight daily, regardless of individual strength or endurance. He said overeating protein strains the bones and liver and raises the risk of coronary heart disease.

According to Dr. Manish Kumar of Patna, athletes utilize performance-enhancing drugs to win faster. Dr. YPS Balhara, an AIIMS Delhi psychiatrist, stated that youngsters use alcohol, cigarettes, and other narcotics as early as adolescence. People become addicted, and there is a need to raise awareness about this. Children should be included in the anti-addiction effort so that they can educate their peers.
